Hi,

I am looking to purchase a bose sounddock series 1 on eBay for use with my iPhone 4. Wanted to know if any is currently using one and if they are facing any problems. There seems to be a lot of mixed reviews on various forums suggesting it can damage the iPhone?

Any thoughts and help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

There is a topic on here about it destroying peoples phones, making them overheat, etc. That said, I haven't had a problem using friends older iphones (3G & 3Gs) on it. Not sure what the difference is between the iPhone 4 and those models but its apparently a bad idea. I haven't tried my iPhone 4 on it though many other users have had a bad experience doing so.

I contacted Bose regarding this and they said it would work fine but I just wouldnt be able to charge the iphone while playing music.

Seems to be so many mixed views on it, but I want a good quality speaker dock without paying over the top.

There are other good speaker systems.

In my opinion, the iHome iP1 is just as good sound-wise and feature-wise, and much cheaper, and doesn't have the overheating issue. It's more stylish IMO, too. US $220ish.

Better video out, too! :D

There are so many better options than a sounddock

The sounddock I have seen is available for £75 the dock u have recommended is over £200. Big price diff!!

Iphone 4 With Bose Sounddock Original

Hi There what you need is the USB charge upgrade to protect your Iphone from the 12V firewire connection on the dock. Usually it wont matter but if the connector is bad then the 12 volts can get up the 5V charge connection and blow the charge circuit. I bought an upgrade kit from www.invebo.com. Works great and charges my iphone witha safe 5 volts. My dock now charges and plays all Apple devices.

Don't do it... Your phone will be ruined.

It may be spam but is there any other fix for my Sounddock 1 to allow it to work and charge my iPhone 4? The invebo looks like it would work but it's a UK company and I'd prefer to buy stateside.
