Both Safari and Firefox stop responding on certain websites

Both browsers stop responding when I try and visit certain websites. I have to eventually force quit them.

If I disable javascript those same pages load fine but now I lose features of sites.

Macbook core duo 2.0
1gb ram
Leopard

All updates applied. I've also downloaded Webkit with the same result. Same pages work fine on my mbp (javascript enabled). Any suggestions?

some of the pages that always lock up are:
walmart.com
norwichbulletin.com

yahoo (sometimes)
