I bought it off CL when the seller mentioned it was just the battery not charging and it would be just a battery replacement. I got another battery and just checked without going through the entire process with the new battery if it shows any luck with it charging but no luck at all. So I sent to Apple for diagnosis and they quoted with $700+ for repair saying its liquid damage.

What would be the steps to do right now? Paying $700, is a lot and seems to be a waste since its old and I can save up some extra money and get a new one. Called Apple support rep and she said cannot do anything at this stage because Apple HQ Repair quoted the price and it cannot be changed.

Sorry to hear you were ripped off by a dishonest CL seller. You can always try to repair the MBP yourself if you feel up to it. Chances are the machine will need a new logic board since that's where the charging circuitry is. Instructions at www.ifixit.com are real good and you might be able to find another logic board on eBay or elsewhere. Cost to do the work yourself will be a lot less than $700. I certainly would not pay Apple to repair it.

Send it Louis Rossmann in NY for board repair. Apple only knows how to replace logic boards.

You also can buy used one logic board for your mac, and replace it personally. It is also could be cheaper than fixing somewhere else

If you feel brave you could attempt it yourself. I split a full glass of orange juice over my old macbook pro. It died but I took it apart and sprayed isopropanol alcohol everywhere and scrubbed with a toothbrush and after drying it was working again :)

I sold it and never got any negative feedback or complaints.
