I have a macbook pro 2019. What can I do to get that up to 60Hz?
I tried changing the usb-c prioritization to high resolution. It helped a little with the sluggishness but its still running at 30Hz. And I get no option to change this in the display settings.

Do I need a different cable?
I'm not very bright when it comes to all these cables... It's gotten too confusing. I do have a display port to usb-c if that helps...

I manually installed the driver for the monitor, and then restarted my computer. I set the usb-c prioritization to "high resolution" and this got it working at 60Hz.

But now my elgato facecam doesn't work :(
This is not working out the way I thought it would. i was hoping for a perfect setup without needing to attach anything to the macbook except the one wire to the monitor.

Do you have sharp text at 2560x1440 resolution and is it still sluggish?
The webcam of my MacBook Pro doesn't work either when I boot from an external SSD.

I have everything working at 60Hz with my Macbook pro 16" 2019 as follows:

  1. install latest drivers from dell for the ultrasharp.
  2. usb-c prioritization: set to high resolution. must restart screen and mac for it to work. Then you can change the display in system preferences to use 60Hz. Note - all USB ports on monitor will now run at slower speeds.
  3. webcam: logitech streamcam works (elgato facecam will NOT work unless connected directly to macbook)
  4. there is a second usb-c port in the back and its only for upstream, so its useless now. There is only one other usb-c and its underneath and can be used with anything (in my case, the stream cam)
Hope that helps anyone out there!

Not sure if this will help but I had similar problem when I first purchased the U2720Q, it turns out the cable I was using was a 5 gb USB cable, after I upgraded the cable to 10 gb USB-C cable and it was outputting 4k 60hz.

I had a similar but intermittent issue with my U2720Q. I switched to using DisplayPort which fixed it instantly and permanently 👍

Is it safe to connect the USB-C cable the Dell U2723QE to the thunderbolt port on the rear of the Mac Studio?

1. 2019 MacBook pros do not support DSC with the latest MacOS for some reason. This feature would have let you keep high speed usb prioritization enabled and get 60hz.

2a. Setting high resolution prioritization reduces the speed of all USB ports to 500Mbps

2b. your elgato stream cam probably requires a 5Gbps port, so that’s why you are having problems.

Unfortunately, the second usb-c upstream port of the display does not provide power, and can only be selected when you are connected via display port or hdmi.
