What I want to do: hook up the MBP to TV for 22" viewing (I realise the resolution won't be as nice as a proper monitor).

What adapters do I need?

I bought this adapter: MINI DISPLAYPORT TO DVI ADAPTER-INT (Do I need something else?)

The MBP you bought has a DVI port. You need a DVI-HDMI cable or a DVI-HDMI adapter and a DVI-DVI cable. The apple link you posted will work, but that same cable on monoprice is about $20 cheaper. Search monoprice for a DVI-HDMI cable and you'll be fine.

No, your computer does not have mini Display port. You should be able to return it for a refund of some kind, but maybe minus a fee.

I'm sure they will take it back, but you will probably have to pay shipping at least one way, perhaps both ways. I would first try to return it at an apple store, but if that doesn't work, call the online store and arrange a return.
