Try to unplug and restart the Touch (hold top button for a few seconds). Then plug it in again.
Let it charge longer.
The initial battery charge process takes quite a while. Depending on how much the battery de-charged while it was packed.
If it takes longer then 3 hours (Approx. time from dead flat to full), then I'd be worried.
Do you have an AC charger?
Plug it into the wall and see if that does anything.
But that one was for my old Nano, 2nd Gen, I think.

As for it not showing up in iTunes. Try re-downloading iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes and see if that helps.
There have been reports on some Macs at least that the default iTunes installation seems to skip part of the Apple Mobile Device software needed for iTunes to recognise the iPod touch.

That is disgusting, i would be outraged! Get back on the phone and tell them you want it by tomorrow, I would, seriously!
Hopefully that will get to you soon. Give them a call if it stays in the same status for too long.

I think I'm just dwelling on the fact that the box only took a day to get here, the same day it went back. The next day it was down for sending me a replacement.
