I have a 4K monitor which powers the mac and provides USB-A and I decided that for big downloads & backups I would be better with a hard wired connection to the router so using Ethernet over power network extenders for the connection and a USB-C to RJ45 Cat 5 adaptor I'm now getting 69 meg internet instead of around 30 over wifi. Quite an improvement I would say.

I'm using the TP-Link network extenders to get ethernet through my home's power cabling. They work really well. I also have one on my Apple TV which also makes a big difference in reliability. I also have one of their WiFi adaptors which provides WiFi at the remote end so it's not a WiFi signal booster, it actually brings the WiFi to the remote location which in my case means a great connection in my summerhouse which is up the garden.

MBA 2020 i5 /16Gb / 1Tb btw.

I am not so sure anymore, I am using an AC Time Capsule with beamforming, and I am getting faster speeds then any other wireless router I have used before it, and my wired and wireless speeds are now matched. On a 200mbs connection, I am getting about 215-220mbs on wireless and wired.

So I just think it depends on what router you are using, plus where you are using it.
