You can add it to your support profile. If it is already added to another account you will need to contact Apple. Only real reason to do this is for your sake. it is a 2012 non retina so no warrantee or applecare -I guess in case it got stolen or I need a major repair I am the owner of record then, not sure why that would/ might matter hence my inquiry...thanks

If the warranty is expired, there is no reason to register it with Apple.

I always register my hardware on my support profile, even if there is no warranty.
