bought an app..Need to buy it again?

i downloaded whatsapp on my iphone 4 some months ago when it was free for a limited time..now when i open app store to download it on my new iphone 4s using the same apple id, it asks me to purchase the app? is it supposed to happen this way? m confused

Try looking it up under purchased in the App store.

Also see if you signed in under the correct Apple ID.

Got it to redownload without purchasing. i had it hidden by mistake as i download a lot of apps now and then. so i opened account setting went to hidden purchases and there it was. All i had to do then was unhide it. thnx for help.

sometimes the device doesn't detect that you have already purchased it, especially if the app is not on your device. tapping on purchase should actually show a popup message saying "you have already purchased this app".
