I saw an open box iPad 11 Pro for almost $200 off at my local best buy and picked it up.

After setting everything up, I realized... I could edit text messages... and then saw that the iPad was on iPad OS 16.1 (despite being reset and like new).

I have never ever done a Beta iOS/iPad OS before. Because I spent the last few hours setting everything up I don't really want to do it again... can I just continue using the iPad like normal and when iPad OS 16 is released, transition to that? Do I need to do anything special?

Thanks for your time!

Oh oh.... has your quest to be iPad free hit a speedbump? Your reading hobby is really trying its best to prevent you from getting down to two devices :(

Uninstall the beta profile then once the official OS is released you’ll be good

I lasted a lot longer than I thought but no matter how hard I tried, I could not get back into my old reading habits. A 16’ MBP on my lap is just too much after several hours. An iPhone 13 PM is just not comfortable to read on for more than an hour. That combined with scanning in paper notes and absolutely no Apple Fitness…. I realized I didn’t upgrade to the 14 PM this year so … why not get an iPad I’ll keep for a few years, lol.

I tried. In the end, I think I’m going to be much happier this way - mainly because I’m a heavy reader. I did almost 50 books last year on my iPad. I’m at 18 books this year (most of those on my old iPad from earlier this year). :p

OK cool, the only thing is I see no profile to uninstall so just continue as normal when the official 16.1 comes out, right?

Thank you :D

The issue here is that you’re running a very out of date beta- this was the first 16.1 beta, so you might be better off installing a beta profile to get the newest beta installed, or alternatively restore the iPad back to 15.7 if you don’t want to be using beta software.

I have always avoided the beta software setups all these years.

However, just now I installed a developer beta profile and I'm downloading a 4.7 GB (beta 4?) update to iPad OS 16.1.

WOW this is easy.

To get the official 16.1 when 16.1 comes out, just delete the developer profile?

This is amazingly easy. No wonder why so many people do it. lol.

Wow, going from Beta 1 to Beta 4 was significant - a lot of noticeable fixes. Glad to see they're fixing up Apple Books a little :D.

I'm tempted to do this on my iPhone now, LOL.

I'll wait tho.

I'll delete the profile when the official 16.1 comes out.
