I bought my 3G last year and just bought a new 3GS. Since my wife was eligible for an upgrade, and I wasn't, technically she is getting the new phone. But since she is afraid of new technology, I get the new phone and she takes my hand-me-down. This is harder to explain in English than it is to just think about in your head.

The new phone arrived this morning about 9:00 am, and I'm stuck and work dying to run home and set all of this up.

I received four different answers from AT&T about how to register the new phone and then switch the sims, etc, but the last guy seemed to give me the most complete answer. He also said that people do it all the time, so I thought I would ask if anyone here has done this, where you replace a non-iPhone with the latest iPhone and then swap the numbers with a previous-generation iPhone.

I was told to activate the new phone with my wife's number, then swap sims, then wipe my current phone and give it to her, then restore the backup of the current phone onto the new phone. Then call AT&T to let them know of the switch so they can update on their end. Does this sound correct?

Thanks in advance.
