bought OS Lion for reinstall, but cant redeem code

I received 2 e-mails from apple, one with a PDF that does not seem to open, and one with a code.

how do I just get my software?

i tried clicking on the pfd, but it just blinks saying a file was downloaded, but I cannot see anything, & there is no where for me to enter a code.

And how did you buy it? It should contain instructions if you got it from Apple.

Start the App Store app and toward the upper right under quick links click Redeem. Enter your AppleID and PW then you will get a box to copy/paste the code into. After you have done that you can DL Lion.

Not sure if this matters or is in the same realm of what you did by purchasing Lion. But I swapped from a HDD to a SDD and did not have the disc anymore (SL) so I called the Apple store, they would install SL for me free of charge. There really was no requirement from them I just brought my Mac in and waited a few minutes.

I guess what I am trying to say is maybe a purchase is not always necessary, let me know if I am way of base on this.
