Just FYI for those wondering. I have had every generation of the gold version aluminum watch, the most recent being the 42 series 3. I ordered the new SS Gold 44 with the cream sports band directly from Apple and I was due to get it next week. I was able to buy it today at my local Apple Store. Set it up, and by the time I got to my car, I realized it was just a little too tight and heavy for my wrist. If I loosened the band another notch it was too loose. I guess I am just used to the lightness of the aluminum. So I went right back in and exchanged it for the gold aluminum 44mm. Feels much better. The aluminum I returned from last year looked brand new, and I do a lot of hiking, so I am happy with it. I also got $225 for my series 3 cellular from last year.

I just picked up my 44mm gold aluminum... I’m loving it. My last 2 watches were stainless steel model and the aluminum is so light it feels amazing!
That’s great! I love the 44mm too!!!! What band are you going to wear with it?

As soon as i opened it, I switched to this sport loop! I have a few other bands that’ll go perfectly with it.

I totally agree with you...I have some nice (non-smart watches) that are heavier, but I truly appreciate the light weight of the aluminum Apple Watch, especially when working out. I had Series 1 and 2 in SS, and bought Series 3 in Aluminum. I have never looked back...just got back from the Apple Store with my new Space Grey Aluminum Series 4...super excited.

I personally don’t care for the aluminum watches. I’m thrilled that per Apple’s spec page the SS Series 4 is about 10% lighter than the SS Series 3

I found that you can get different hole spacing by switching between the two band sizes, assuming both aren’t too long or too short. That doesn’t help the weight, though I’ve never been bothered by it. I’ve worn much heavier watches in the past.

I wouldn’t mind the aluminum, except the screen would be covered with scratches. My wife’s is and my SS has zero.

I just wish that the SS gold and aluminum gold shades were more similar. Obviously I know it’s pretry impossible for the same finish in different materials, but I would call the aluminum gold copper.

It has grown on me since yesterday but still considering trading up for the SS. Haven’t really considered the differing weight so that’s definitely something I’ll have to consider.

I agree. I went from a series 3 aluminum to the gold SS and I didn’t really notice a weight change, which surprised me because I remember the SS feeling so much heavier on the wrist. I was shocked to see the difference in series 3 aluminum and series 4 SS is les than a third of an ounce

Thank you! That’s a good idea about the bands. My wrist is already small and the bigger band is just too big. Would have probably worked better for me in the smaller size watch, but I just love the big size!

I know what you mean, that’s why I wanted it. I love a truer color gold, more like 14K. One thing I did notice about the SS gold was that the little button on the cream strap is more like a rose/copper gold...not the same as the watch. That disappointed me. I know it’s not a huge deal, but I do love it when it matches. On the aluminum with the pink strap it comes closer, but still leans more rose gold. Of course, the Apple Midnight Blue band, which I love, has a silver button, and I’m ok with that now...lol.

I picked up a 40 mm aluminum and a 40 mm stainless in the store yesterday and was surprised how close their weights seemed to be.
