Bought the ATV3 - now what?

I purchased the new Apple TV so I could watch 1080p content, but when I search for stuff in the iTunes store, it usually just says "HD". Sometimes it specifies "1080p" and sometimes it specifies "720p", but often it simply says "HD" and provides no further detail. How am I supposed to know what content is available in 1080p? This is in the Canadian iTunes store, btw. Maybe it's different elsewhere.

i think most older movies are 720p, my best guess is if it doesnt specify 1080 and it just says HD its likely only 720p

For 1080p content:

• You could also buy & rip BD discs
• Buy a 1080p camcorder, shoot your own movies and convert them with iMovie or FCP X
• Shoot some 1080p with your iPhone 4s and use iMovie or FCP X to render for iTunes
• Watch for the inevitable 1080p podcasts (if there aren't some already)

I've seen posts claiming some 1080p on Netflix (doesn't Canada have Netflix now?) but I don't know if that actually exists yet.

While TV3 is overly (IMO) iTunes store-centric, the iTunes store is not the only way to feed it what you want. Just as we once fed iPods with music from our CDs (there wasn't even an iTunes store in the beginning), there remains options for content sourced from places other than the iTunes store.

That's what I suspected. Too bad, but I'm sure there will be more and more 1080p content as time goes by.

A lot of the older movies are 1080p as well. It's weird why some movies are onlys 720p. Like 300 and Sherlock Holmes are only 720p for some reason.

Just updated my aTV2 to 5.1.1 but looking forward to the jailbreak for aTV3 so I can stream my 1080p content at 1080p!
