This year's bowl games have been great entertainment, only a few blowouts so far. But some of the fields have been pretty poor. The games at Chase Field and Yankee Stadium were among the worst. Putting down a new surface for one (or two) games seems to create some poor playing conditions. But even the Music City Bowl at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, home of the NFL's Titans, was pretty bad. Players were slipping and getting up slowly on nearly half of the plays. I don't know what was up with that.
In the case of "one and done" fields (yeah, they had two bowls in Phoenix) it seems that player safety is not a high priority. And we missed the Fenway Bowl this time, another field conversion chasing the pot of gold. No wonder so many players who are entering the NFL draft opted out of playing in a bowl game!
