So I have never a pair and bought them a few days ago. They feel pretty heavy but there is so much bass. I’ve tried to go into settings but nothing seems to make a difference. Also I’ve gone through the steps and they just won’t update to the current software

Where did you buy them from? If they won't update to the latest firmware that is a bit of a concern.

Apple. They are still covered through January. I do what it says. I put them in the case, plug in and put my phone beside it. My thought was maybe because my phone had the beta software

I am experiencing the same issue with iOS 18.1, but it is functioning correctly on Apple TV and MacBook devices. However, iCloud syncing is not working.
As of yet, I have no success with USB-C. My Beats Solo 4 are functioning properly over USB-C, and the audio quality is substantially improved. Could you please provide any insights into potential errors I may be making with the AirPods Max.

In the interim, Bluetooth is working on iOS 18.1, but there is still no USB-C support. Therefore, I do not believe this will be a viable solution.

Can anyone that owns the new version try a usb-c to 3.5mm cable and see if that works to hardline them? I’m pulling my hair out trying to get the answer

When referring to an USB-C to 3.5mm cable, you are specifically referring to a Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC). There are numerous DACs available, including one from Apple.
However, the older 3.5mm to Lightning connector is an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC). There is currently no 3.5mm to USB-C cable (ADC). These „cables“ are commonly referred to as Audio Interfaces, which are used to connect microphones or guitars. However, this are not the „cables“ you are seeking, so we are unfortunately out of options.

Thank you for the thorough explanation. I think I follow, but for clarity- if I wanted to use AirPod Max on a flight plugged into a seatback screen for a movie, would that work?

At present, I have not been able to successfully implement USB-C into the device. Regrettably, this is not feasible in this instance. However, have you observed the substantial size of these audio interfaces?

An exception to my test rig: iPad to Max via USB-C cable. No success. Cassette player via analog to Audio Interface to USB-C cable to Max. No success either.

According to apples online specialist, they stated to me that this adapter will work.. I’m skeptical after your testing, but maybe there’s still a chance:

Also curious if Apple’s 3.5mm to lighting + this adapter may work?

Regrettably, I do not possess this device.
However, I believe the issue may be with the USB-C port on the new Max. It could be a software update or a special Apple adapter.

This DAC offers excellent value for money and is compatible with the original Max or any analog headphone. There are numerous other options available. But then you need a unique 3.5mm to Lightning connector, which is Apple’s exclusive standard. Please refer to the attached image for a comparison between the Blue Max v.1 and the White Max v.2.
Interestingly, someone mentioned a long time ago that this DAC is also an ADC, but it does not appear to be compatible with my new White Max v.2.
The Apple Helpdesk representative was not informed about the latest version.

I have one; I tried it and it didn't work. My MacBook recognized there were headphones plugged in, but no sound came out.
