Hey everyone, I bought an iphone 5s on monday and I have been desperately trying to vibrate only and it isnt vibrating alone. It vibrates but continues to play the ringtone as well.

I set the vibration to rapid, enabled vibration for ring and on silent, I put it in do not disturb mode everything but it won't vibrate?

What could be wrong.

When I turn the ringer all the way down it still rings but the ringtone is just low.

Why wasn't apple sensible enough to allow for the phone to go into vibrate mode once you hold down the volume down button long enough.

Thanks in advance for your replies and help.

edit: So that's what the switch above the volume keys is for *doh*

Yes because it's my first personal Apple product. So because I am a member since 2006 means that I spent a lot of time on this site reading up on the iphone?

This is why there needs to be a basic test to pass before you're allowed to purchase a device.

Just FYI I'd go back to the store you got it from and get a partial refund. Now that the 6 has been announced, Apple dropped the 64GB iPhone 5s, the 16GB model became $99 and the 32GB model became $149 (on contract of course). That means depending on the model you got you'll get $100-$150 back (unless you got a 64GB phone).

If the store doesn't want to give you the difference, return it and rebuy it.

buy an iPhone 6

The 5s is still a really great phone. If the OP can get back 50% of the subsidized cost of the phone, why not keep the 5s? That's my current phone and it still runs amazingly. Of course I'm still getting the 6 Plus but if the bigger screens wouldn't have come out, I'd be rocking my iPhone 5s for another year.
