So I just got a 16gb 2nd gen touch from amazon, and I plugged it in to my pc (winxp). The ipod turns on, and the picture tells me i need to plug in the usb cord and start itunes (already done).
the ipod charges, but the computer doesn't have any idea it's attached. I've tried on both my xp machine and powerbook running osx 10.4.11, I've tried multiple ipod cables (which I know work, because my nano connects just fine on both computers). I'm using itunes 8.1 on both computers.
the ipod does know that it has been plugged in (to power at least) because it turns on when plugged in and makes a little whoosh sound effect that i guess means it knows something. However, the picture with the usb cord and an arrow pointing to the itunes logo is the only thing i see.
does this touch have a bad usb port or something? any suggestions would be great.. i'd love to get this thing working.
Thanks!
EDIT: reinstalled itunes, works.. i don't understand but oh well.
