Is this normal? (I opened it up) Cycle counter: 2.
I hope they haven't used it before me.
Thanks.

They charge it up to a certain percentage before it is packaged and shipped out of the factory. I've seen it on all of my Apple products brand new out of the box. I'd assume it is part of quality control before they wrap everything up and ship them out.

Hi! I understand that, what you write is natural. But here I usually see the day it was opened and the percentage it was at when it was first turned on. The strange thing is that I see a date from two months ago with a value of 90%, even though when I turned on the machine it was at 62%

That is completely normal. Lithium-ion batteries are designed to hold their charge in standby and slowly discharge when they are not used. While in transit (10 weeks between 16.06 and 24.08), battery slowly drained 36% on its way to your house.
To explain the cycles... Each time your battery completes a 100-0-100 cycle, that counts as one. I am yet to own a brand new Apple product that came out of the box with 0 cycles. Just safely presume that it is a part of quality control process and enjoy your new MBP!

What made me unsure was that I haven't seen another new macbook that shows when it was last charged. I always see the date there on a new machine, which is the day when I first turn it on
Thank you for your answers!

"Last charged to X%" is an OS feature across all Apple products that have built-in batteries. I can't remember when it was first introduced, but all Apple products I own have been showing that for a while now.

Typically the manufactering place will boot the device once it's completed to test and stuff. Also receiving a brand new MBP with 2 cycle charge is pretty normal. I gotten mine directly from the apple store as brand new sealed and it did come with 2 cycle charges.

It's likely that unit was made around June and has been sitting on the shelf at the apple store and you just happen to be the one to pick up that device.
