I found a great deal on ebay for a factory sealed MBP (late 08) from a seller with several hundred sales of computers and a 99+% feedback rating.

I paid $1999.99 for the base model, so retail price. It included Applecare (about $200). I did not pay tax (about $175). And I am getting $200 back from Microsoft Live Search. Thank you Microsoft!

I have two questions for you guys:

1: Should I transfer to the new MBP from my old one using firewire? Or should I restore from my Time Machine backup?

2: Is there a way to look up a serial number to see if a computer was refurbished?

Sorry about the confusing frowny-face in the title of this thread. I did not mean to put that in there...

I am excited!

As long as it is factory sealed, I don't think you will have an issues registering with Apple. I bought both my Air and MacBook on Ebay and they are PERFECT. I saved a lot of money on Ebay.
