Break up mpeg

Ok, so I ripped a DVD into a mpeg4 file, now I want to cut the file up, ie save certin parts of the film into seperate video files...

Can someone explain how to do this, I think I saw you can do it in QuickTime, but I can't find that post.

Ok I figured it out, kinda in a panic, have 2 days to get a seminar done...
