I picked up my old MacBook from being stored for years, right before I put it away I had upgraded ram to 8GB, installed a 240GB SSD, and replaced the battery. It was a bit dusty so I cleaned it, took it apart and repasted the CPU & Graphics Chip and cleaned it with a Data Vac.
after reassembly I built a new patched MacOs Catalina installer from My Mac Pro. booted/formatted AFPS and installed Catalina. installed safari 14 update, night shift patch, rebooted to recovery and installed post install patches. and now its up and running, played some 1080p youtube for a while this morning so far so good. only issue I've had is with the wifi being a little wonky, sometimes it can't find it after sleep. turning off wifi and back on fixes it.

I thought this was pretty neat so I'm sharing it.
Any questions or comments welcome.
