With the purchase of my new unibody MacBook, even within the safe bounds of my home I was constantly in fear of tripping over some invisible object on the stairs and sending my new purchase flying out of my grasp. Hello Eclipse I. This sleeve/bag for the MacBook is made by Brenthaven for whom I now hold very high respect. This sleeve was built to protect. No nonsense about it. It cost $40 and was worth every bit of that price. Perhaps the only thing I wish it had were rings to attach a shoulder strap to but otherwise it is nearly perfect for my use. The built in handle I use all the time and makes it a much more practical solution than most other sleeves in that it’s much easier to carry around without having to cradle it like a baby. But at the same time it’s still slim enough to be put in a knapsack or messenger bag. One of my favorite features is the pocket on the outside. A couple of books can easily fit and although it bulges out a little the power adaptor fits in this pocket as well, and doesn’t require any great effort to put it in. As you can see in the pictures, all along the edge of the inside is foam padding and at the bottom is even more padding (it has about double the amount of the sides). The front and back sides are protected by some type of firm plastic or similar material imbedded inside the casing while the inside is covered in faux-suede that further insures that nothing inside will be scratched. For the outside, the entire case is covered in a tough canvas that feels water resistant enough to where I wouldn’t be afraid to expose it to rain for a short period. In addition the material feels like it could take a good beating without any substantial damage such as ripping or fraying. Finally, because it is a semi-firm sleeve that’s not supposed to wrap around the notebook perfectly but rather just hold it firmly in place, I’ll probably be able to use it for future generations of MacBooks as well (assuming that the footprint of future MacBooks don’t get any larger).

All in all I am just amazed at how well it is made and all the protection that it offers. For anyone looking for a case that offers more protection than the typical sleeve but doesn’t want the bulk of a computer or messenger bag then I can highly recommend this one.

Note: the bulge in the case in the one photo is the power adaptor in the pocket to show how it fits
