Brewster Rockit home page
Tim Rickard writes the strip, which is about a moronic and incompetent space captain, and fills it with very corny jokes and references to famous movies and TV shows, from The Wizard of Oz to Star Wars, and to current movies and other pop culture.
The running gag of the incompetent leader is a known winning formula -- think the Simpsons, Peter Sellers' Clouseau, The Inspector Gadget TV show, etc.
The characters include Brewster and his crew -- Pam, Cliff, Dr. Mel, and Winky -- plus the government man Agent X, and assorted robots and aliens. Dr. Mel may be on the team, but he's more of the evil scientist type. Winky, the kid in the group, is always picked for the dangerous missions and his spleen always takes the brunt. If you liked the movie Spaceballs and other spoofs, you'd probably like Brewster Rockit.
You won't find any edgy humor here, just bad jokes (in the good sense of "bad") and simple artwork. At first I thought it was only for kids, but now I see it's for anybody who appreciates light, silly humor. I was embarrassed to laugh at it regularly until I discovered that others I knew, including a coworker, were doing the same.
Yesterday's strip, part of a recent theme spoofing the Fantastic Four, convinced me to throw caution to the winds and post about Brewster here. Why? It's got an iPod joke!
The following strip can be found here (as long as the link lasts):
