I was using my iPhone 3Gs today while outside in the extreme heat. I never got a heat warning but at one point my iPhone just put up the "emergency call" screen with "searching..." where the cell bars should be. After a while a message appeared that said "iPhone requires a restore".

When attempting to restore the phone I get all the way to the end but the restore can't seem to restore the firmware. It is now stuck in DFU mode.

I think the cell radio or the modem might have died because of the fact it could not talk with the cellphone towers while in emergency call mode. So...

1. Any ideas on if this is fixable?
2. Is there ANY chance Apple will change it out now that I'm twenty days outside my warranty? (Long shot, but have to ask -_-)
3. Is there any chance I can get in and get my pictures out off the camera roll while the phone is in DFU mode?

UPDATE:

Here is a snapshot of the update log. This is where the phone fails:

1. Not without replacing the logic board ~$200
2. They might replace it for you
3. No, you did a restore. Thus, everything on the iPhone is now gone. It can be retrieved if you backed it up in iTunes.
