Bricked phone after pressing delete all contents and setting

hi..there are many similar posts like this but i didnt get perfect answer
I bought a 3g Iphone jailbreaked and unlocked but the guy who sold me pressed delete all contents and setting before giving me.Now phone is in restore mode when i attach it to itune it tries to upgrade to 4.2 which i dont want cuz its not jailbreaked properly yet. Then i downloaded 3.1.3firmware so that i can upgrade to it but itunes say not compatible firmware. SO can anybody please guide me step by step. I have laptop with windows7.

If you want to jailbreak only. you are safe with 4.2.1 on your 3G because it is untethered jailbreak.

3.1.3 is way outdated. Try downloading 4.1 - I believe JB works on that.
