Bridge Mode vs Router Mode for Mesh Networks?

I would like to connect a Netgear Orbi to a Comcast XB3 modem.

Do I need to use it in Bridge Mode or can I just connect it to the ethernet jack?

Also, is one way faster than the other?

You only want to have one of them running as a router. So either you need to setup the XB3 to basically be a bridge, or the Orbi. Its probably easiest to put the Orbi in bridge mode if you don't know how to change the XB3.
