Color me shocked... another celebrity marriage goes down the tubes, this time after only 4 months. And by having it annulled, they can claim (in a legal sense, anyway) that they were never really married.

It's terrible. People who aren't absolutely certain that they want to get married and STAY married SHOULDN'T get married. It just cheapens the entire concept of marriage.

It's terrible. People who aren't absolutely certain that they want to get married and STAY married SHOULDN'T get married. It just cheapens the entire concept of marriage.

No, it doesn't cheapen anything.

Very few people get married with the a priori intent to divorce. However, society makes it trivially easy to get married (Las Vegas, for example) but very difficult/expensive to get divorced. Yet people get divorced anyway, often because they got married without thinking enough about it.

if you want to make the concept of marriage mean more, make it difficult/expensive/time consuming to get married, and that way, only those who truly want to be married will do it.

Also, of course, people change and grow in different directions (albeit rarely in four months or whatever), and so divorce offers people an option besides a lifetime with someone they no longer to wish to be with.

More difficult to meet (and get to know) non-celebrities, perhaps, but probably as easy, if not easier, than meeting their available peers as it is for you or me.
