having some odd errors here. let me lay out the issue.

I'm a college student, and at school, I plug my xbox right into the wall to get on Live; works fine. At home, I have always used internet sharing on my MBP to get on Live, because I don't have a convenient way to get a network cable to where my xbox is, and I have an older xbox without wifi. note, i haven't successfully done this in about a year now, because I spent the summer without coming home and didn't bring my xbox home the time before that, etc.

i get home yesterday and set up my xbox to get on live- i plug the xbox into the MBP's ethernet port, turn in internet sharing in sys prefs, and manually set up the xbox, using the MBP's IP on the new subnetwork i've created (192.168.2.1) as the default gateway, using the next IP (192.168.2.2) as the IP of the xbox, and 255.255.255.0 as my subnet mask. then i set the primary and secondary DNS servers to 192.168.1.1, the IP of my actual router. these are the exact same settings i've used in the past, and it's worked perfectly.

connects to the network fine, but never gets past there- i get a "DNS could not resolve the location of the xbox Live servers" error. weird. i try using the actual DNS server addresses (68.87.something.something, don't remember offhand) my ISP provides. no dice. i try google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). no dice.

now i'm really confused, so i go plug it in downstairs where my router is (a place i unfortunately cannot leave my xbox), and set all settings to automatic. works perfectly, AND the DNS servers it assigns are the same i typed in the second time (68.87.something.something).

i can't figure this out. anyone have any input?
