Brightness Issue

When my MacBook (Lion, 10.7.3) is connected to the mains power supply and connected to an external monitor via mini-display port to DVI with the MacBook in clamshell mode. If I shut down and power my MacBook back on with no power supply or any other cables connected, the brightness is at 100% and I have to turn it down manually. This doesn’t occur if you are just using the MacBook connected to the mains and disconnect the power, the brightness goes down as it should do, this only occurs in clamshell mode. I have reset the SMC and PRAM. It’s a minor issue but annoying!
