Bringing MPG into IMovie

I downloaded some MPGs that I take with my Digital Camera. When I try to drop them into IMovie, it comes up as unrecognized? Any way to convert them? I don't have QT PRO.

You have to do three steps.
1. Demux the mpeg file in audio and video streams using BBDemux(free).
2. Convert video to quicktime format using DivA(free)
3. Convert the audio with MadPlay(free).

Or you can use a program like mpeg streamclip which combines the three steps. I haven't tried it though.
