Brisbane (CA) to San Francisco

So I'll be staying at a hotel in Brisbane - close to the airport for business for a few days - is it relatively stree-free to drive to Fisherman's wharf and all the usual sights and find parking, etc ? Or should I ditch the car?

There are no public transportation options near the hotel so I would have to drive - but I keep hearing how horrible parking is in San Fran and I've never been there before.

Any opinions would be helpful.

Drive to the nearest BART station and take that into town. Parking is possible, but I think you'll enjoy the city more on foot.

Ditch the car. The drive to Fisherman's Wharf is unpleasant, and parking is difficult and expensive.

If you're staying at an airport hotel, they probably provide a free shuttle to the airport. From the airport, you can get to BART, which is then the best way to get to San Francisco. Within San Francisco, depending on where you're going, either BART or MUNI will be the best way to get around. Stay at a hotel closer to SFO. They have Caltrans right by it.

Caltrain isn't really great for getting to San Francisco from SFO. You have to take BART to get to Caltrain from there, and Caltrain only gets you to the ballpark, which is on the opposite end of town from Fisherman's Wharf. Unless you want to see the Giants, there's not a lot of great reasons to be in that neighbourhood. BART gets you downtown, which is much better in terms of seeing the sights.

Thanks for the replies everyone - as everyone suggested I will ditch the car - and nadyne, yes there is a free shuttle from the hotel to SFO - so I'll take BART to Powell and other destinations coupled with the cable cars.
