Broken 23" Apple Cinema display - worth selling?

I knowingly bought a dead 23" Cinema display thinking that I could get it repaired. I sent it in to the only authorised Apple dealer in Switerland only to be quoted almost the price of a new one to get it fixed.

It's hardly used, in very good condition other than the fact that it's dead. They have not told me what is wrong with it and the guy I bought it from says it just died one day.

Are there small electronics people out there who fix this kind of thing? Is there a market for broken gear?

Should I just chuck it in the bin? Anyone been in a similar situation?

Unfortunately, what you were told at the repair shop is what I have experienced. It seems like it is better just to purchase a new one than to try to fix an old one. This being said, it is probably not worth selling.

What was wrong with it? Backlight, power supply, something else? I'm sure that it might be used as a case for a pretty cool Mac Mini hack job.

They can't say. They don't go beyond checking the power brick, which I find amazing. I mean it could be a lose wire or a faulty button.

Anyway, I bought a new one as the repaired one only has a 3 months warranty and cannot be covered by apple care.

The prices in Switzerland are disgusting, a 23" Cinema display costs $1300.

I'll try ebay, maybe there's some small electronics hacker who could make a fish tank out of it.

it's definitely worth selling. people on ebay can go nuts for stuff. you might even get more than you paid for it.

I don't think it is. I was mad enough to pay 350 for it and then pay another 80 to get a quote on fixing it, so I paid 430.
