I have a broken macbook A1342.

  • No pass sign on boot up
  • Put the HDD and put it in my desktop (Lubuntu). It would only let me mount it Read-Only mentioning corruption.
  • Backed up home folder (safe!)
  • Bought a new HDD, stuck in an old OSX disk (tiger? says 2008 on the second disk)
  • Booted holding command, hit enter when the disk icon came up
  • Freezes. No icon movement, no change on screen.

I can't get the disk out, so I don't know which OSX it is on it, but the disk didn't come with the laptop (bought the laptop off of a school, don't have its disks). I don't really know what to do here, I'm not really a mac man, this is for my wife. No beep codes, no error messages, just a grey screen.
