My iPhone 4 lock/sleep button doesn't work anymore but since there is a crack on the back will the warranty still be good?

I've read lots of things says yes and no, but I don't want to send my phone in just to get it back not fixed.
The phone has never been dropped and the crack is on the complete otherside of the phone.

When was your iPhone 4 purchased?

Technically no because the warranty would become void once the damage occurred. Apple can say that the drop or damage to the phone caused the lock button not to work.
