Broken iBook Backlight

the backlight on my iBook has gone (after I dropped it), there is no way it could eb asoftware fault is there? (the screen works, but there is no backlight, it's like turning down the brightness as far as it goes)

secondly it is under warranty but i guess they will see straight away that it was dropped as the screen and cd drive don't work.

anyone know if you cna just get a backlight for it?

(i'm thinking it might be best to claim it on the house insurance)

any other ideas?

I assume you tried the brightness adjustment buttons, right? The only major "non-broke" possibility is that the cables connecting the backlight to the main unit for power etc have become unplugged. You'll have to open it up and plug them back together.

Otherwise, it is possible to buy the backlight. They are often available on eBay, such as this one:

At least, I believe that's the most likely replacement part that you want.

I had an HP a couple years ago with the exact problem you described, except mine spontaneously went out. I replaced the LCD panel, but it still didn't work. It was probably a problem on the graphics chip. I would bite the bullet and get a new MB.
