ok, so I had a 2011 imac but whilst moving into my new flat dropped it down the stairs smashing the screen quite badly. The screen really is beyond repair and although it makes a bit of noise when I turn it on, i'm not convinced it works properly either. I can't bring myself to just throw it out, surely theres something I can do with it to get a bit of money back, like parts etc. Any suggestions?

Put it on eBay as a "broken/for parts only" ... full disclose what happened and describe in detail any damage. Provide lots of pictures from all angles showing the damage. There is a market for broken Macs to be used as a source of parts to try to make a good machine out of several differently broken ones. You may be surprised how much you will get for it. Include the keyboard and mouse in the sale as they are probably undamaged.
