so I got a text message by a friend and the damn thing froze on me
so I did a reset with the two buttons and then it told me to connect to itunes

I did, and it showed that I needed a restore

After I press restore my iPhone has the apple logo and a circle going around at the bottom and stays that way forever and iTunes says "Waiting for iPhone"

what can I do?

If, after attempting this a few times, you can't restore the iPhone, you'll have to take it to the store. Mine became unresponsive and there was no way to restore it - the store replaced it in minutes.

If there's an Apple store nearby, good news - you're getting a shiny new iPhone! If not, bummer.
