I have a problem on a MacBook Air M1 running MacOS Sonoma 14.0.

Sometimes, not so often, when the Finder is the frontmost application, the top menu items appear in a very short dialog window with a scrollbar. I attach pictures that are a bit more explicative of what I attempted to write.

In the first screenshot you may see the menu shown after clicking on "File" item.
In the second screenshot you may see the menu shown after clicking on the "apple" icon.

If the frontmost application is not the Finder, e.g. Safari, the issue is not present.

This appeared all of a sudden. I do not remember performing any updates or installing any applications before it started occurring.

Relaunching the Finder app solves the issue, but I would like to understand what is causing this weird behaviour.

Do you know:
1. the cause.
2. how to avoid it occurring in the first place.

Cheers

The menus were rewritten in macOS 14, so there are probably still some bugs left to be fixed.

Try to update to the latest macOS version, probably it's not fixed yet but you never know.
