Broken screen! I'm I screwed?

How much does Apple Canada charge to fix a broken 3G screen? Will it void my extended warranty?

I'm looking for a iPhone digitizer in a DIY fix of my 3G phone. I'm going to use this method http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4mboB8p-sdw

I'm in Canada Ontario so what's my best option. Buy it online? $25 looks like the average price but I wouldn't mind a cheaper price with the same stuff. I also don't want to be scammed :cool:

Need your help and I appreciate it.
 
Got a new glass and digitizer sitting next to me I bought from eBay. Another user on this forum used the same company and seemed to be happy. Buyer is Gadgetfix. Prices are cheap and parts are OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).

Haven't put mine on yet, might do it tonight.

Pretty expensive! Plus it's eBay so that's not great. Any other alternatives? Can I buy a complete kit (tools, ect) with free shipping in Canada for under $20?

Yeah, cost me a lot less in the US.

I paid $32 US w/ free shipping for the glass w/ digitizer, headphone jack assembly, and a new battery. I don't see it being on eBay as an issue as long as you find a reputable source.

Looks like you just need to find the Canadian equivalent of these guys. Or just move to a better nation. :p
 
My girlfriends 3gs had a cracked screen to my son dropping it while she was holding him. She took it to the apple store, said I've got a scratch on my screen, the guy didnt think it was funny... But he took it and swapped the screen out for free...

I thought she had such good luck that I should try to see what they would do for my 10 month out of warranty 3g with dust under the screen, a scratch on the screen, and a cracked plastic back... They replaced the whole thing!

Id say try taking it to the apple store and see what happens. It cant hurt.

If you can take your parents or your family with you, it helps a lot. When my 3G was acting up about six months ago (it was making a clicking/popping noise when I made calls (radiation?)), I went to the Apple store and they woudn't swap it out. So, I went back with my parents (note: I'm in my late 20s, already graduated college) who have gray hair, and the exact same Apple employee said "oh sure," and swapped it out like nothing. Discrimination? I don't know, but I would recommend taking your family with you.
 
I tried replacing just the glass and digitizer on my 3G and failed. It is a pretty hard task. I got everything together but could never really get the glass to sit all the way down and I also damaged the rubber seal. Having the proper adhesive would have made things a little better, as I did not have this. Also in the process, one of the cables got messed up and the sensors and headset speaker stopped working. I ended up getting the whole display assembly and everything worked fine. If you don't mind paying more for the whole display assembly, it is VERY easy to install. Thats just my experience, there are many people that have done the glass and digitizer replacement successfully.
