Broken screen MBA - can I run the recovery off an external screen?

Got a MBAir Retina from 2018, model A1932, the screen broke, apparently it boots, wondering if I can boot and perform recovery procedure off an external screen through an USB-C to HDMI adaptor, any clue if it works?
