I have an older MacBook (not sure exactly what version, somewhere around '09) and the screen is toast. I can see a tiny section of the top left corner, so I tried utilizing that space and looking at other forums to figure out how to make it work, but I've had no success.

I'm using a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI converter and then an HDMI cord to go from the broken laptop to my TV, but it says there is no signal. I read that you have to do something in the settings, so I played around with that, but also to no avail.

Do I have the wrong cords? Or is there something else I am missing? Thanks in advance!

Absolutely possible. My daily driver is a mid 2011 21.5" iMac and the Display is defective so I have it connected up to a 22" LG IPS FULLHD Display via the Thunderbolt 2 port using an adapter to DVI

With the LG Display being a matt finish the quality is arguably better than the native iMac Display

In my case it was essential to disconnect the defective iMac Display from the Logic Board for it to work.
