Ok, so I've broken my iPhone's screen like so:

After a quick search, it became apparent that it isn't too hard to replace yourself. My warranty has expired anyway so why not give it a go? Question is, what parts do I need? It seems to me that there are three different components which make up the screen, which one am I after? The screen works fine, it even responds to touch over the broken glass - so I'm hoping it's something cheap to replace.

I'm in the UK, is there anywhere I can get hold of an original part for this? I wouldn't want some cheap rip-off - I think I'd rather have the screen cracked than that!

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated :)

I can't really tell from that small picture. Is that a 2G or a 3G?
If it's a 2G, you're going to have to replace everything.
If it's a 3G, check out this site: http://db.tidbits.com/article/10389
Sorry yes it's an iPhone 3G.

Thanks for the guide but I'm really looking to know what specific part I'll need (seeing as the screen works and you can touch it... it's just the glass that's shattered). Also, where I can get that original part in the UK.

check out ifixit.com.
They'll help you figure out what you need, and you can order it on their website. Also they have some great guides on how to replace everything.

Okay, I see what you mean. I've been through that problem before, and according to most sources, replacing the LCD is what you need to do.
The digitizer is the touch sensitive part, so that's fine.
Some people say it's possible to just replace the glass itself (that retails for around £30 on eBay) and replace it.
It's significantly harder though, as you have to seperate the glass from the LCD.
