In my family we have 4 iPhones, 2 are 2g and 2 are 3g. All used on T-Mobile. The silent switch broke on one of the 2g phones in the silent position. I was quoted $80 to fix it by a couple of local store which I couldn't justify based on what's the phone is worth so I went for the software fixes. Here is my experience.
1- "Auto Silent": Nice and light software. However, i could not use it to make my phone ring. The option is available but I do not know what I did wrong.
2- "MivTones": Nice with a number of options for video ringtone. However, I was looking for a simple fix to my problem. MivTones worked for me although it took a little bit more time to switch to Silent while at meetings. I also was not able to make the phone ring and vibrate at the same time. It is an option in there but I could not make it work on my setup.
3- My recommendation is "Mirror profile". I heard about it today from a coworker and it is pretty nice in setting different profiles "Nokia" style. However, for me the best thing is that it fixed my broken switch issue and I can switch profiles with a couple of quick touches. Also having an indicator in the status bar showing the active profile is valuable. So far I like it and I guess I will use it for a while.
I believe my problem is solved for now. I am waiting to hear from other people about their experience and what worked for the same issue. BTW, this is on a 2g, running 3.0 firmware.
