The volume button on my iphone 3g has fallen off, and I can't use earplugs with it anymore. I think the metal connectors or pins or whatever it is that is inside the minijack have been bent or something, so that they do not connect properly to the earplug jack. There is a lot of crackling, some echoes and weird changes in volume if I plug earplugs into it to listen to music. The earplugs do not seem to snap into place in the minijack like they used to. However, if I push the earplugs down hard and apply pressure to get them all the way down I get normal audio. Is there any way I can try to fix this easily, or am I stuck with an iPhone without music-playing capabilities? FWIW, I've taken it to an Apple Store, and they said they're not willing to help.

Also, the volume button has just broken off, and I can still change from normal to silent mode, but its a lot of hassle and I have to use my nails to switch. Any suggestions on how I can fix it?
