I have a Brother HL5250DN connected to a Linksys WRT54GS router. THe default setting for the printer was to obtain a IP address via DHCP. The problem with this is that every time I rebooted the router would assign a new IP address to the printer, so I'd have to change things around in system preferences. The solution seemed to be assigning a static IP address to the printer. However the Linksys router does not allow for setting up static addresses. A work around that I had read said to assign an address to the printer that is outside the range used by Linksys. I believe that the poster suggested 192.168.1.2, though this may be where I made my mistake. I down loaded the Remote Print Console utility from Brother that allows you to change the IP address. I then used it to change the address and set the IP config to static rather the DHCP. Every thing seemed to take and when I print out the printers settings I do see that the IP address is now 192.168.1.2, and that the IP config is static. However I am not able to print from the computer. I tried moving the network cable from the router to a direct connection between my MacPro and the printer but this didn't help either. I figured the best course would be to set the printer back to its default settings but now the Remote Print Console can not find the printer. Any ideas. I tried contacting Brother directly but their CS is usually pretty slow.
