In a cup of orange juice.
Edit. That was weird. Give me a minute to type my question.

***************

I bought this printer at Costco 2 weeks ago. When it connects it works great. Here's the deal, every 2 days or so, if I don't restart the printer, I can't connect to it. It will fall asleep after I use it and will work just fine that day, but if I don't use it for another day or so, it gives me a connection error.

Has anyone else experienced a problem like this with Brother's printers?

I'm running 10.4.8. The printer's driver and firmware are both current.

This is driving me crazy. Restarting it every other day kind of defeats the fact it's a network printer and I'm sure it puts extra wear on the scanner's light, let alone the printer.

I just got a Brother DCP-7020 today and the software/drivers they include are absolute CRAP for the Mac. It wouldn't make me not buy a Brother again, but I would definitely consider never using their software.

I wouldn't have even installed it, except the DCP-7020 is an AIO Laser, so I needed the scanner driver.

agreed re. the drivers.

I got an MFC 7420 recently to use in mac/windows. it has absolutely atrocious mac drivers compared to the windows ones.

The device itself is great, does everything I bought it to do. However functionality is much impaired when used with a mac. Basic things like duplex printing are not implemented in the mac driver, and the scanner software is slower and more prone to crashing.

Makes me wonder which all-in-one printer company is useable in Mac OS?

This thing was only $399 and does everything I need, so for that aspect I can't complain, but Bother needs to get on the ball with their software. This is unexcuseable. I feel like it's 5 years ago with OS X.

I've had a few times the printer wouldn't print, but I could access the scanner via Twain. Not sure what the deal was with that, why one function worked and the other did not?

I was wondering if reseting my Airport could have caused an issues?

I removed the Brother control software that it vomited onto my Mac. I don't trust their scanner software.

Anway, next time It stops repsonding to a network call, I'm going to print out its network setting and see if they correspond to what they are a this time. I was wondering if putting in a dedictated IP address might fix this issues?

Mac Brother drivers are sick

Made the mistake of buying Brother printers: MFC 8370DN and HL-5370DW, because they connect to wifi. They don't. Just getting a print is an ordeal, scanning is erratic, all sorts of errors and bugs. Can't print without turning off the wifi and switching it on again or I get printer not connected message. OSX 10.7.3 is running. Also has to throw out the mac blue tooth keyboard and mouse - keeps disconnecting. How long did I try - 6 months! What did I try - everything! Now I know why there is terrorism.
