I have all-in-one laser unit model HL-L2380DW. It seems every major OS the printing and scanning gets further crippled. Besides the fact that few years ago, all the multifunction options stopped working, such scanning to PDF etc, directly from printer's control panel. Now, I am discover that all the Macs just refused to open the macOS built in scan functionality. If I remove the printer and reinstall it, the scanning option will work, but after a while, let's say a week, that functionality stops and no longer works. If I open printer menu and click on Open Scanner, it just bring while page and nothing else happens. The only way that I found to correct it, is to delete the printer and reinstall it. This is happening on both of our MBA's - M1 and M2.

Has anyone experienced this? We are forced to use the non-Apple optimized Brother iPrint&Scan app. It works, but I would rather use the built in app, but it is no longer reliable and I can't keep uninstalling it and installing it, each time we need to use scanner. The printing functionality has always been working fine and it continue to work fine, including our iPhones etc, so no problem with that! it it just scanning that is annoying like this.

I’ve noticed this with HP AIOs, too. Ever since Apple moved to the AirPrint architecture, it seems that printer drivers have suffered in fully (and reliably) supporting all the available functionality.

My Brother MFP worked fine till I switched to a Netgear (Nighthawk) router. Now it disconnects after several days/weeks of use.

The longest-lasting (not permanent) solution I've found is to add the printer to the network without a password (by pressing a button on the router) - which to me suggests it's a router security/authentication issue.

(And yes, I've tried a static IP - that was the second-longest-lasting, but still not permanent, solution.)
