hi,

my brother's iphone 3g is at 3.1.3. he uses a PC to sync with iTunes. He wants to jailbreak so right now we are trying to jb with jailbreakme.

Problem:
iPhone is not letting him backup correctly. It takes 2 hours to backup and sync and when it's done it doesn't seem to have worked. wifi is NOT current;y working and he has tried restoring and even tried updating to 4.1 with no results.

My suggestion is to either try restoring from dfu or to maybe try syncing with my mac.

Any suggestions?

Have him restore and setup as new. Tell him not to restore from his backup cause it might be faulty.
Also I dont think the wifi issue is software related, his wireless chip might have crapped out.

can and should we restore it back to 3.1.3? I got the phone jailbroken now but the wifi problem persists and I think it's been a while since it's been restored

we are currently in dfu mode, itunes recognizes phone but when we try to restore we get this error:

the iphone update server could not be contacted
make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or try again later.

it's been saying this for a while

tried again and it said:

the iphone software update server cannot be contacted

wtf?

I am going to assume that computer has internet access. Check your host file and make sure it's not redirecting to Cydia. If thats not the problem, try disabling security measures. Or, try another computer.
