Browsable stacks?

I can only get the app stack to be browsable.. Every other folder i have in the toolbar opens up in finder regardless of what I set it to under each individual folder preferences. They are all set to stack. ?

try setting the dock to show the folder as a grid. That should allow you to traverse the folders
